Brewers Cup Gran Prix Cyclocross Race – Gloucester, MA
On Saturday, Tammy and I went to Gloucester, MA to watch the Great Brewers Gran Prix of Gloucester cyclocross bike race. The weather was pretty terrible – rainy, wet, raw, cold – but the race was quite fun to watch. I have never seen a cyclocross race before. It is a cross between road cycling and mountain biking with a little bit of a steeple-chase thrown in for good measure. Also there were some weird traditions/antics going on like offering beer, bacon, and dollar bills to the riders as they rounded the course. I don’t think I am going to go out and buy a cyclocross bike and start racing, but hey you never know.
The Taco Truck was at the expo serving up gourmet tacos for lunch. What do you think? Is the Taco Man going to hop on that Cannondale and take it for a spin?
Cranberry Trifest – Lakeville, MA
This past weekend was filled with sporting activities. Saturday was the Red Bull Cliff Diving event and Sunday Tammy competed in the Cranberry Trifest Olympic Distance Triathlon in Lakeville, MA. Tammy did the race with her friend Susu. We were up at the crack of dawn and in the car headed for the race. It started out as a foggy day, but as the sun came up the fog burned away and the race went off without a hitch. It was a typical race day filled with anxiety, high energy, and happiness to be done. Both Tammy and Susu did a great job racing, and myself and Julie – Susu’s partner – did a great job spectating.
While the athletes were out competing I roamed the race-grounds looking for photo opportunities. I have to occupy myself somewhow, right? Here are some of the usual – and unusual – sightings at these races like the ever-present long line of porto-johns, spectators, competitors, etc…

Cliff Diving at Boston ICA
Saturday was the second time that the Red Bull Cliff Diving Championship came to Boston. It had come in 2011, but unfortunately I missed it. I was determined to make it this year. This is a unique stop for the Cliff Diving competition because it is the only stop on their tour where the “cliff” is manmade and not a real cliff. A 30-meter platform was setup at on the top of the Institute for Contemporary Art on waterfront and they dove into the Boston Harbor. Unfortunately there was a private function on Anthony’s Pier 4 so we had to shoot this event from the opposite side – by Louis Boston – and as a result we could not see the divers enter the water. But as you can see that is only part of the fun.
The day started out with a paratrooper/kayaker landing in the harbor.
