Brook-to-the-Lyn – Brooklyn, NY

I went for a walk around Park Slope in Brooklyn with my sister, my Yashica-mat 124G, and a couple of rolls of expired Fuji slide film (Fujichrome RMS 100/1000 and Provia 100). This camera is so much fun.

Boston/Cambridge – Pinholed

(Above) Massachusetts Avenue Bridge going from Boston to Cambridge.  The river was frozen and you can see the cracked ice in the shoadow of the bridge.  In the distance you can see the buildings on the MIT campus.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a video on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/39578584) about Ian Ruhter, a photographer who built a delivery truck-sized camera. I think he did it because he he wanted to do something different and unique with his photography.  What he came up with is quite amazing.  I found myself thinking how I can do something that unique with my photography.  I started reading about make-your-own pinhole cameras, and decided I would give it a try. First I started reading about “matchbox” pinhole cameras that are small/simple box cameras made from matchboxes. They are pretty simple and dare I say a little boring. I was going to make one, but alas I could not find a box of matches.

(Below) The Dartmouth Street entrance to the Boston Public Library.  This was the last shot that I took and thankfully the sun was starting to go down so I could actually get some better detail in the photo.  I was only standing about 20 ft. back from the steps and I was able to get both of the statues in the photo.  Wow that is wide.

Quick Trip to Charlotte, NC

Last weekend we made a trip to visit Tammy’s mother and step-father who recently moved to Charlotte, NC.  As I have come to expect with any trip to see Tammy’s mom the weekend was action-packed with lots of activities and fun.  On Saturday we went to see Tammy’s mom’s new horse, Spyder, and watch her riding lesson.  Of course I took a little time to wander around the grounds of the stables and take a few photos.

This is Tammy’s mom, Vicki, on her new horse Spyder during her riding lesson  and monochrome of a tree that I stumbled upon on the grounds of the farm.

Brooklyn Bridge – Brooklyn, NY

Wow, it really has been a while since I have posted here on my blog.  Kind of embarrassing, but what can you do?  Sometimes life gets busy and there is not enough time to do everything you want.

A few weeks ago Tammy and I went down to Brooklyn to visit my sister.  One of the things that I always wanted to do in NYC is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.  When I lived in Manhattan I was always so busy with work that I never got a chance to do a lot of the little touristy things that I wanted, so what better time than the present.  We were fortunate enough to have a really beautiful weather weekend (before Sandy decided to visit).  We got a bit of a late start on Saturday after sleeping late, working out, and eating breakfast.

This is my favorite photo from our walk across the bridge.  As you can see there are a lot of tarps covering the bridge (I think they were painting) so the views were a bit obstructed. I got this shot before getting to part of the bridge that was completely covered. After we walked across the bridge we went to lower Manhattan and then met my parents in the Meat Packing District for dinner.  We had a really nice day.

You may be thinking: he took only one photo?  Well no.  I took a lot more, but I was having camera problems so a lot of them did not come out that well.  As soon as we came home I sent my camera off to the Leica service center in NJ. So hopefully it will be coming back to me soon and in good working order.  Stay tuned for some interesting photos.  There is a surprise coming.

A Short Walk – Boston, MA

This past weekend was one of those not-so-productive weekends for me.  I spent some time working (writing) and running errands, and Sunday was rained-out for half of the day.  So there wasn’t that much time for photography.  By the time I got myself up and out of the house on Saturday it was quite late – I am actually embarrassed to say how late – and there wasn’t too much daylight left.  I took a short walk with my camera.

This is on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay.  It is a spot just east of Mass Ave where artists and musicians gather to sell their wares and entertain the passers-by in exchange for their loose change.  I took this photo from across the street with my 50mm lens wide open at f/2, which is why it is a bit soft.  I also processed it with a film emulator in Lightroom; this one is Fuji 800Z from VSCO film.  It is not quite the same as film, but I like the high ISO look that some of these pre-sets create.

Trump Tower – Chicago, IL

I have been pretty busy lately and it has been getting darker earlier so there has not much time to get out and take photos.  So I decided to revisit Chicago.  No, I didn’t go back I just spent some time going through the photos I took when I was there last month I found this one that I like, but didn’t bother to process the first time through.  Here is a “looking up” photo of the Trump Tower.
